Biden Vows To Speed Environmental Reviews

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A new press release from the White House outlines a plan to release a new Permitting Action Plan to strengthen and accelerate Federal permitting and environmental reviews.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A new press release from the White House outlines a plan to release a new Permitting Action Plan to strengthen and accelerate Federal permitting and environmental reviews by leveraging existing permitting authorities, as well as new provisions in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

According to the release, the action plan outlines the Administration’s strategy for “ensuring that Federal environmental reviews and permitting processes are effective, efficient, and transparent, guided by the best available science to promote positive environmental and community outcomes, and shaped by early and meaningful public engagement. Taken together, these new steps will help strengthen supply chains, lower costs for families, grow our clean energy economy, revitalize communities across the country, support good-paying jobs, and deliver infrastructure investments on task, on time, and on budget without unnecessary bureaucratic delay.”

The administration hopes that “long overdue improvements to our nation’s ports, airports, rail, and roads will help ease inflationary pressures, create conditions for businesses to thrive, and strengthen supply chains – which will ultimately lower costs for families.”

Shortage Of Construction Workers Persists

ARLINGTON, VA – Construction employment edged up by 2,000 jobs between March and April as contractors scrambled to find workers in an increasingly tight labor market, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America of new government data.

Association leaders urged officials in Washington to address both short- and long-term worker shortages with expanded permits for foreign-born workers and support for career training and education to enable more workers to acquire the skills for high-paying construction careers.

“The pause in employment gains last month most likely signifies a shortage of qualified workers, rather than any slowdown in demand for projects,” said Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist. “In fact, job openings in construction hit an all-time high at the end of March, while the industry’s unemployment rate was the lowest ever recorded for April.”

Our annual Builder 100 and Next 100 list looks at the top 200 home builders across the United States, ranked by closings. The list, populated from responses to our annual survey, also includes the firms’ gross revenue from home building operations, and where and what they built.
