Represents the Barnard Companies in all manner of arbitrated and litigated disputes in both state and federal proceedings. Provides legal counsel tempered with a business sense to allow the Barnard Companies to make sound business decisions. This counsel ranges from contract review to contract negotiations, claims resolution, and providing guidance to all within the Company, from the Chairman of the Board to Engineers in the field. Handles internal matters of a legal or contractual nature and works with outside counsel to accomplish the Company goals while balancing budgetary concerns. Work in insurance claims includes commercial general liability claims, builder’s risk claims, professional liability claims, and director’s and officer’s claims. Negotiates on behalf of the Company with unions on collective bargaining agreements, nationally and internationally, and protects and obtains intellectual property rights on behalf of the
Company. Involved in the acquisition and sale of businesses and real property, as
well as providing counsel for safety.
